Meet the Candidates
In a commitment to keeping our residents informed and in touch with community leaders, we invited candidates for the township to come to the market before the elections. Last week Richard Franks, Linda Nelson and John Anthony Brown attended. They will be located in tents adjacent to the information booth. Please stop by and meet them. and find out what their plans are. Next week Kyle Watson, Craig Rickard, and Brad Bailey will be attending. The Woodlands Farmer's Market
The Woodlands Farmer's Market is the perfect place to pick up fresh produce, fresh foods and a unique gift for a special person in your life.
The Woodlands Farmer's Market is open every Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Recently the market had summer hours, but is now back to regular hours.
Every Saturday there are food trucks, live music and over 60 vendors to choose from. It's a perfect family outing that can include shopping, breakfast OR lunch!

Pumpkin Smash Event
Come out to the first annual Pumpkin Smash, a free, all-ages event produced by The Woodlands Township.
Each year 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins end up in U.S. landfills. That’s a scary amount of food waste. Instead of putting your jack-o-lantern in the trash, bring it to the Pumpkin Smash! This FREE event provides a unique opportunity for residents to dispose of their Halloween pumpkins.
You smash ‘em and we will collect the pieces and transport them to a local composting facility.

Why We Should be Interested in the Water Table under The Woodlands
The current board of directors for the Lonestar Groundwater Conservation District is preparing to implement a ground water withdrawal plan (The Plan is called “Defined Future Conditions” or better known as DFC’s) that will reduce the water table under The Woodlands. A water table is the surface and the area where groundwater saturates spaces between sediments.
It is a fact that the water we are now pumping from wells is maybe 10,000 years old. Water moves very slowly in the sand, gravel and clay it resides in. When pumping at a rate greater than it can be refilled naturally causes two major impacts. One impact it soon makes the pump incapable of pumping at needed flow and thus needs to be drilled deeper. This then becomes a financial burden put on the utility districts that will then be passed on to the consumers.
The Lonestar Plan currently is allowing amounts of ground water to be used that will never be replaced in our lifetime and they want to allow even more. The second impact of doing this and the most severe is when excessive groundwater pumping happens you risk lowering the water table, When the water is removed the sand, gravel, and clay collapses and shrinks. This causes surface subsidence Subsidence is the sinking or settling of the ground surface. This occurs when the ground underneath a property begins to collapse and in extrema cases can take the building’s foundations with it. This causes one side of the house to sink and those suspect cracks to appear.
To maintain the ability to exist in the community we all love we must limit the rate at which we draw down the water table. If ground water is not available to support population growth, then we must rely on supplemental surface water. The added benefit to taking this path is that we limit subsidence and that creates a better lifestyle condition for our existing residents and future residents. We do not want to create the stigma that growth in this area is impeded by flooding potential. People will not come!
Ask anyone whose home has flooded recently and they will tell you that the cost of refurbishing their home greatly exceeded their water bill. We need to manage the water table under The Woodlands to maintain the excellent community value we have. Doing so by conserving ground water will in the long term be a successful business and resident strategy.
