Holiday Lighting and Decorating Contest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are no forms to fill out--no registration.  Just turn on your lights the week of December 6th - 12th.  Judges will be out that week.  Prizes are awarded for Best Home and Best Neighborhood. Grogan's Mill Village awards gift certificates to Randalls for best home and best street/neighborhood.  To encourage competition, prizes are not given to the same home or street two years in a row.
If you would like to suggest a home for judges to see, even if it is your own, please e-mail the address to Joe G. at info@gmva.org.
2008 Community Elections
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Filing foms for the 2008 Community elections are ready and available.  If you would like to be involved and help your village by becoming a GMVA Board member, join the RDRC, or join the Woodlands Community Association, please contact any current Board member.  We ask that you attend at least one meeting prior to the elections.

For more information go to the Community Associations Web site.
Glen Mill Sound Wall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to a lot of dedicated work by Jim Upham, ten homeowners on North Deerfoot have signed easements for building the sound wall along their property.  WCA Director, Deborah Sargeant, proposed that the $75,000 in utility relocation costs be added to the WCA budget, which was approved unanimously. This motion eliminated one more of the final roadblocks in getting the wall built.  We are waiting for the Woodlands Operating Company to also sign off since they still control all of our easements.  Then there is a final review by TxDOT.
The wall has never been closer.  Thanks to Jim, Deborah, and many others who have assisted in this project.
What's Going On at the Exxon Station?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Exxon station at the corner of S. Millbend and Grogan's Mill Road has been closed and will be torn down. A full service McDonald's drive through restaurant will be put up some time this spring.
Farmer's Market
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are trying to organize a Farmer's Market in the GM Center starting on April 19th.  If you know people who grow and sell their own crops or have crafts that they make, have them e-mail Dana Denton (vicepresident@gmva.org) to get an application and more information.
Assessment Statement Mailed Soon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Assessment statements will be mailed the first week of December to be received by December 8, 2007. The tax rate this year will be reduced from 41 cents to 14 cents this year as we work off a surplus that had been built up in a rainy day fund.  The same will happen again next year, after that the rates will go up again.
The Conference Center is Getting a Facelift
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Conference center is getting a $50 million facelift and a major remodeling. The older hotel rooms will be torn down and a new four-story hotel will be built.  In addition some private homes will be added in the same areas and apparently in the area in front of the WAC that formerly had hotel structures.  An article about the project is on our Web site under Local News.
No GMVA Meeting This Month
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There will not be a public meeting this month  Our next meeting will be on January 21st, 7pm, at the Community Services Building on Lake Woodlands Drive.
