Register for November Elections
Before voters can vote in the November elections they must register to vote.  This will be an official governmental election, unlike the elections for the WCA and village associations.  Registration must take place by October 9th.  You can get information on your registration and where to vote at  Most of us will vote at Wilkerson Intermediate school.

The Woodlands Decides E-Newsletter is available to anyone.  If you would like to sign up to receive it, please visit, and click the sign-up link at the bottom of the page.

Cheryl Crandall Tangen, a WCA Board member, has written a paper leading one through the governance discussion from the perspective of "one who believes that ultimate local control - of, by, and for, the residents - requires that the area incorporate as a municipality."  Read the full paper on our Web site.
We encourage you to send us your thoughts and comments on the upcoming election.
September Yard of the Month Announced
September 2007 Yard of the Month Grogan's Mill Village Association congratulates homeowners Chris and Jennifer Laughman on having the Village's September 2007 "Yard of the Month". Chris and Jennifer Laughman and their 6 year old daughter, Madelynn, have lived on Deerfoot Circle in The Woodlands for the past 8 1/2 years. In 2006 they re-landscaped their front lawn. They installed St. Augustine grass and planted tropical hibiscus, crepe myrtle and desert rose plants. They have found that these plants do very well in the Texas heat and humidity. They are also fairly drought tolerable. The lawn is a blaze of color in the Spring. In the future, they plan to plant additional tropical hibiscus.

No Fall Farmer's Market at GM Shopping Center
The Farmer's Market in the fall has been canceled due to not enough vendors.  It appears that once the market was canceled at Market Street, the vendors quickly found alternatives for the fall.  Many vendors say that they are interested in the Farmer's Market at the GM Shopping Center in the spring.  We will work on making that a reality and will keep you updated.
Sound Wall Updates
Because of the unique characteristics needed for noise abatement the Glen
Mill sound wall cannot meet requirements of the Woodlands Residential Development Standard 2.5 regarding fences. Consequently, it was necessary to present the project to the Designs Standard Committee (DSC) for their review. Miles McKinney of the WCSC made the presentation to the DSC during their meeting on September 19, 2007. The committee reviewed the sound wall and voted to sustain the project by granting the variances necessary to construct the wall.
Miles McKinney has arranged for the preparation of a Grant of Easement document allowing the five-foot easement necessary to construct the wall. The document will require signatures of the twelve affected property owners and The Woodlands Operating Company. A meeting with the affected property owners is planned to update the project.
The next step will be to gather a signed consent from the property owners allowing the wall to be built.  The GMVA will seek to have a meeting with all affected residents before this to explain what the next steps are.
